Arabic manuscript on paper, 6 lines to the page, written in precise Naskh script in black ink within cloud bands reserved against a hatched ground, verses separated by small gold roundels pointed with blue and red, ruled in black and gold, signed beneath the text panel, outer margins decorated with large cintamani motifs against a gold ground

Condition

In good overall condition, a few very minor creases and consolidated tears, as viewed.

Mir Mustafa b. Ferhad Pasha (d.1614)

Mir Mustafa was the son of Grand-vizier Ferhad Pasha (d.1595), one of the celebrated pupils of Suleyman the Magnificent's court calligrapher Ahmed Karahisari (d.1556). He studied calligraphy under the supervision of his father Ferhad Pasha and his brother Mir Ahmed. He transcribed two Qur'an manuscripts which were endowed to the Mausoleum of Sultan Selim I and the Mausoleum of Ayyub al-Ansari in Istanbul. He died in 1614 and was buried in the cemetery of the Shehzade Mosque.
