Condition

The work is in good condition overall. The canvas is clear and sound. There is evidence of minor wear and handling along the edges and margins, along with the associated paint loss or occasional abrasion. There is a small area of minute paint loss on the figure's red turban and some undulation of the canvas at the lower middle register. Examination under ultraviolet light reveals scattered minute spots of restoration throughout the picture plane, most notably in the background (primarily middle left), along the silhouettes of the figures (bottom half of the painting and upper right quadrant), and the head of the figure in the red turban), which are not apparent to the naked eye. Framed.

拍品資料及來源

Rojak Seller presents itself as the quintessential imagery most associated with Lee Man Fong. It has been his strong and long-term preoccupation through several decades. The figures and poses are some of the artist's favourites, as they are reoccurring motifs. The present painting, however, depicts one of the earliest renditions of the composition, and stands apart from other versions of this theme because of its oil and canvas mediums, which lends the picture its rich and vivid hues. This creative liberty enables the artist to achieve the balance of composition and serenity of mood and to transform it into our visual ideal of the humble joys of daily life.
