Condition

This work is in good condition overall, as is the canvas, which is clear and taut. There are minor marks of wear and handling, with associated scuffs and paint loss (upper right corner and on the lower left edge and margin). Soft craquelure is observed on the upper middle (figure's teeth and lip) upon close observation, but the paint layers are in sound and stable condition otherwise. A spot of accretion is apparent on the middle right. Examination under ultraviolet light reveals no indication of retouching. Framed.

拍品資料及來源

"[Masriadi] is a painter of tremendous gifts and ability - witness his command of colour, light and shadow and his playful treatment of scale. His figures are solidly modeled, giving them a sculptural quality while making them appear larger than life. His subjects are seemingly real, ordinary people, representing the masses and their interests. He is, it appears, a social realist. But dig deeper and you will find that in one way or another many of his works are actually self-portraits."
