Condition

Colour and Clarity: In our opinion, the centre old cushion-cut diamond is about J to K colours, SI1 clarity, with medium yellow fluorescence. Other smaller old-cut diamonds are of similar colour, VS to SI clarity. Condition: Pin fitting is detachable. Antique silver-topped gold mount, shows signs of wear and surface abrasions consistent with its age, overall in very good condition.

Designed as a celestial array of diamonds, this star burst brooch epitomizes the late Victorian "fin de siècle" brooches that were in vogue during the 1840s. The late Victorian brooches were usually smaller and were worn in large numbers to decorate the neckline on lace or tulle draped around the décolletage. Star burst brooches were made with six, eight, twelve or sixteen points entirely set with diamonds. Less extravagant versions were composed of pearls, opals and moonstones.
