For the 165th anniversary 'Homage to F.A. Lange', the German manufacturer A. Lange & Söhne developed an
innovative gold alloy, 18-karat honey-colored gold.

The prevailing Mohs method determines hardness based on which materials can scratch the material being tested.
Distinguished by its warm honey hue and subtle gleam, this new alloy also boasts a Vickers hardness of 300 to 320HVI,
equivalent to a 4 to 5 on the Mohs scale, in that it can be scratched with the equivalent of a steel knife. Conventional
yellow gold has a Vickers hardness of 135HV1, equivalent to 3 to 4 on the Mohs scale, and thus, can be easily scratched
by a copper coin.
