- A YELLOW GOLD AND ENAMEL MUSICAL SATCHEL FORM BOX MADE FOR THE CHINESE MARKETCIRCA 1815
- length 66 mm
• the box of satchel-form, with hinged lid painted with a bouquet of flowers against a turquoise opaque enamel framed by chased gold flowers simulating the satchel flap and clasp, the surround painted with translucent green enamel over wavy engine-turned ground, the borders chased with flowers of blue, gold, and white enamel on turquoise ground, the reverse with similar translucent green enamel decoration and border enamel decoration and fitted with winding hole, the interior fitted with sur plateau music, music released by lever fitted at the left, and wound by means of a male key • hinged lid interior stamped with an entwined PC, R. within a roundel, and G for Geneva gold mark
Condition
Accompanied by an associated key, some small areas of enamel restoration to green on the top cover one at the lower right and the other above the hinge upper right, the borders back and front with minor losses to turquoise enamel, the green enamel on back with expected surface scratches, music running and with good tonality, a lovely box overall.
