With an Extract from the Archives confirming production in 1954 and sale on November 27th of the same year.

Patek Philippe launched the Ref. 1953 in 1944.  Easily recognized for its flared shape, this model is commonly referred to as the 'Hour-Glass'.   The case of this watch was made by Markowski, one of the finest case makers in Geneva.  In addition to this model, they were also responsible for the case production of other unusually shaped rectangular watches, for example the 'Top-Hat' model.  For a similar example, see Reardon J., Patek Philippe In America, p.200-201, and Huber, M. & Banbery, A., Patek Philippe, Vol. 2, Second Edition, p. 128, pl. 177.
