well potted with curved sides rising from a low foot to a slightly flaring rim, the interior painted with five bats in shaded tones of coral red, the exterior densely painted with western-style lotus, hollyhock, anemone and lily, all borne on stylised leafy scrolls with further florets reserved on a bright yellow ground, the underside inscribed in iron-red with a six-character reign mark

Brightly enamelled with a bold and intricate design of flowers, the present bowl belongs to a group of wares that continued in the Qianlong tradition. A closely related bowl from the British Rail Pension Fund was sold in these rooms, 16th May 1989, lot 83; and another was also sold in these rooms, 8th October 2010, lot 2698. Compare also a slightly larger example from the Qing Court collection and still in Beijing, illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum.
