The painting is warmer in tone and yellower in colour than the catalogue illustration suggests. The panel is cradled to the reverse, the paint surface appears rather flattened and to have lost its definition. The paint surface is secure and under a glossy varnish with the gold ground worn away. With the naked eye quite extensive but localised retouchings can be made out, several of which have discoloured. A restored vertical crack which reaches from the lower edge to the baby's hand and a restored crack of 10 cm to the right of this, as well as a restored crack upper right, can all be made out with the naked eye. Inspection under UV light reveals scattered retouchings and strengthenings to add definition. Offered in a later frame with some knocks.
