For a nearly identical example by Fasoldt, see Sotheby's, New York, Masterpieces from the Time Museum, Part Four, Volume II, Chronometers and Scientific Instruments, 13 and 14 October, 2004 lot 707.
Charles Fasoldt (1818-1898) was born in Dresden, Germany where he trained as a clock and watch maker before emigrating to America in 1848. He worked at first in New York, moving to Albany in 1861 where he set up a manufactory for clocks and watches specializing in precision work. A brilliant horologist, he was granted several patents during his career and the precision engineering and features seen on many of his clocks have not been surpassed in America.
