Sir William Meredyth Somerville, Chief Secretary for Ireland, and his wife Maria, daughter of the Marchioness of Conyngham, mistress to George IV.
The arms are those of Somerville impaling Conyngham, for Sir William Meredyth Somerville, Bart., and his first wife Maria Harriet, 2nd daughter of Henry, 3rd Baron and 1st Marquess Conyngham, K.P., and his wife Elizabeth, mistress to George IV.
William was M.P. for Drogheda 1837-52 and for Canterbury 1854-65. he was Chief Secretary for Ireland 1847-52, member of the Privy Council, and was created in 1863 Baron Athlumney and Baron Meredyth of Dollardstown, Co. Meath; he died in 1873.
