A similar painted and parcel-gilt commode is illustrated, Kreisel/Himmelheber, Die Kunst des deutschen Möbels, Munich, 1973, Vol. II, pl. 439. Like the present commode the drawer fronts are decorated with scrolling foliate motifs and with stylized shells; the overall design with in-curved corners above scrolled supports is also very similar.  See also another commode carved in similar fashion, illustrated, op. cit. pl. 434.  Each of these commodes was made in Munich, almost certainly inspired by the designs of François Cuvilliés.
