The exuberant carving and finely engraved plates are characteristic of the best glass makers and carvers of the Venetian republic. The nervous sinuous decoration of the borders is carved in the same spirit as the picture frame containing the portrait of the Doge Paolo Renier (who ruled between 1779-1789) now in the Museo Correr (illustrated in C. Alberici, Il Mobile Veneto, Milan, 1980, p. 272, no. 416). The overall form and the engraved plates can also be found on a mirror in a private collection, fig. 1 and reproduced in Alberici, op. cit., p. 275, no. 424.
