Stewart Young is the Senior Director and Head of the Jewellery Department at Sotheby’s. Based in Hong Kong, leading the team in Asia across jewellery auctions, private sales, as well as partnering with the Salon team on the retail side of the business. With two decades of experience in the global jewellery auction market, Stewart began his auction career with Sotheby’s in 2007, his swift adaptation to the industry is supported by his background as a couture designer, along with experience in art and costume direction in the film and stage sectors. He has designed numerous high-jewellery pieces for auction, including a stunning 102-carat fancy vivid yellow diamond necklace, which fetched USD 9 million. Throughout his career, Stewart has introduced several record-breaking jewels to auction, such as a 7.59-carat Fancy Vivid Blue Diamond ring (USD 20 million), an Imperial Jadeite demi-parure (USD 12.8 million), and an unmounted 30.10-carat Very Light Pink Diamond (USD 2.6 million).

In 2014, Stewart curated a charity auction for Cantonese pop singer Jenny Tseng, followed by the Kat Florence x Sarah Jessica Parker charity auction in 2016, as well as numerous single-owner jewellery auctions over the years. Prior to rejoining Sotheby’s, he held leadership positions at Bonhams Hong Kong and Tiancheng International as Director and Head of Department for Asia .
