This is the first of these famed vintage bottles that has returned to Sotheby's since that record was set. It was bottled in 1986, having been in a cask for 60 years, the oldest vintage ever produced. This particular bottle is most notable due to its condition. Sotheby's worked directly with The Macallan to have the cork and capsule replaced with bespoke materials. During this process the liquid underwent clinical analysis to prove its authenticity and the condition was assessed and approved by The Macallan's Master Distiller, Kirsteen Campbell.
