About the Museum
As one of the largest multidisciplinary museums in the United States devoted to the art of our time, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago (MCA) exhibits some of the most thought-provoking art created since 1945. Notable debut exhibitions have included Frida Kahlo’s first U.S. show and Jeff Koons’ first solo museum exhibition. The collection is strong in the postwar art category, particularly late Surrealism, Pop Art, Minimalism and conceptual art, in addition to 1980s postmodern and contemporary painting, sculpture, photography, video, installations and related media. Highlights include Jasper Johns, Andy Warhol, Cindy Sherman, Kara Walker and Alexander Calder. The MCA strives to be an artist-activated, audience-engaged space that encourages ideas, community and conversation about the creative process.
