About the Museum

Established in 1965, Israel's largest cultural institution is also ranked among the world’s leading art and archaeology museums. In addition, it features a large collection of paintings representing a wide range of periods, styles, subjects and regions. Painters in the collection include such international figures as Rembrandt, Marc Chagall and Camille Pissarro, as well as Israeli and Jewish artists including Abel Pann and Reuven Rubin. The Israel Museum also operates two off-site locations: the Rockefeller Archaeological Museum, an architectural gem built in 1938 to display archaeology from ancient Israel, and Ticho House, which offers an ongoing programme of exhibitions by younger Israeli artists within an historic house and garden setting.
