Description

an interesting association copy, being a gift from Charles Whibley (1859-1930), critic and essayist, to Frederic Manning (1882-1935), Australian poet.

Whibley's anonymous contributions to Blackwood's Magazine, ''Musings without methods'', were described by Eliot as ''the best sustained piece of literary journalism that I know of in recent times'' (see ONDB). Eliot wrote a memoir of Whibley in 1931 (Gallup A20).
