Description

Giles Grendey (1693-1780) had a workshop on St. John's Square, Clerkenwell and was renowned for his japanned seat furniture, notably the famous Infantado suite he supplied to the Palacio de Lazcano, Spain. A set of twelve red-japanned chairs of very similar form to the present set and attributed to Giles Grendey in full were sold Sotheby's, 7 May 1993, lot 104.
