Description

Michael Gross was captivated by man's isolation and estrangement in the presence of vast, open spaces.   The use of tools or implements in a painting is a vehicle for the artist to suggest the existence of humans in such situations. "And the Tractor Remained Orphaned" was painted after the artist suffered a personal loss.  Motti Omer quotes the artist's thoughts on the subject of the present lot "There's a situation, an experience a particular second in one's life, which is very strong and very hard experiential material. When do we hold our breath for a second? When there us a second which is eternity, which we want to freeze, to commune with.  An ordinary second is something we let pass"  (Mordechai Omer, Michael Gross, 1993, p. 36)
