CHATEAU CHEVAL BLANC 1998
Château Cheval Blanc 1998
St. Emilion, 1er Grand Cru Classé (A)
Lot 7616: 1 scuffed capsule otherwise very good general appearance, Lot 7617: 3 scuffed capsules by case dividers, Lot 7618: 5 scuffed capsules by case dividers, 1 very slightly scuffed label

Vintage from 21 September to 5 October. 32 hl/hectare made. 56% Merlot, 44% Cabernet Franc and a very good year for both varieties. 13% alcohol. This was an ideal scenario vintage which was stunning from the start. The great battle is with the 2000, which had a much higher yield, and I feel the 1998 will outstay it. In 2011, great class on the nose - easily the classiest wine in the decade. A scent that simply flies out of the glass at you. Such finesse of texture with such an exquisite finish. Then, from magnum, so vibrant, so full of mega-flavour, and with such attack. Velvet pashmina tannins and such fresh fruit. In 2014, so young, aromatic and with huge impact and power.
