The present work was painted shortly before John Butler Yeats left Ireland for New York in December 1907. Exploring the theme of JBY as a pilgrim father - a seeker and philosopher - Pyle comments that in the present work, 'Yeats inclines his head in a position of enquiry, holding his pilgrim's hat in readiness to put on his head.'
The sheet appears to be sound and work in good original condition.
