Description

The subject matter of gourds was popular at the Imperial court and appears on a wide range of imperial enamels on glass, metal, and porcelain. Another white jade snuff bottle decorated with gourds, originally conceived as a bottle and not a later conversion, was illustrated in Hugh Moss, Victor Graham and Ka Bo Tsang, A Treasury of Chinese Snuff Bottles: The Mary and George Bloch Collection, vol. 1, Hong Kong, 2002, no. 34, and  sold in these rooms, 26th May 2014, lot 1026.
