Description

For the decoration of the urn cf. e.g. F. Sinn, Stadtrömische Marmorurnen, 1987, p. 159, no. 174, and pl. 49, b; p. 165, no. 294 and pl. 52, d.

The inscription on the present urn is one of the few recorded ones in which the adjective sanctus/sancta refers to a pagan rather than Christian individual.
