Description

Nizam al-Din ‘Abd al-‘Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Husayn al-Birjandi was a well-known mathematician, astronomer and jurist who worked in Isfahan at the Safavid courts of Isma’il I (r.1501–24) and Tahmasp (r.1524–76). Copies of this work can be found in libraries in Baghdad, Hyderabad, Manchester, Mashhad, St. Petersburg and Tehran (see B.A. Rosenfeld & E. Ihsanoglu, Mathematicians, Astronomers & other Scholars of Islamic Civilisation and their Works ( 7th – 19th C.), Istanbul, 2003, pp.314-6, no.940, A9). The colophon of this copy states that it was copied from a copy made from the original by the author.
