Description

Joseph Andrau was a 20thcentury sculptor from Toulouse, whose dynamic compositions distinguish him as an imaginative and spirited modern artist. He has earned praise from art critics such as Christian Schmidt, who named Andrau one of the greatest artists to hail from Toulouse.

This marble Femme Accroupié is both tranquil and arresting; the predominantly soft curves combined with the angular lines of the girl’s arm, nose and jaw reflect Henry Moore’s exploration of shape, which led to his works of complete abstraction.
