Description

Such S-shaped dragon jade pendants broke with the traditional typology of semi-circular jade ornaments and added a new aesthetic dimension to multiple jade pendant groups. Such pendants were unearthed across a wide area in large quantities, often made in pairs used for ritual ornaments to indicate ranks of aristocratic classes during the Eastern Han. See "Chushi yulong pei" [Jade Dragon Pendants in the Chu Style] in Yang Jianfang, ed., Zhongguo guyu yanjiu lunwen ji [A Collection of Papers on the Study of Jade in Ancient China], vol. 2, Taipei, 2001, pp. 10-64.
