Abraham-Louis Breguet (1747-1823) is widely acknowledged for having set the standards by which all fine watchmaking has been judged.

He was born in Neuchâtel, Switzerland and spent most of his productive life in Paris. His inventions were extremely fundamental to horology.  His customers were some of the most influential and important members of society including Louis XVI and his Queen, Marie-Antoinette whom were big supporters of Breguet and his watchmaking. Breguet became the indispensable watchmaker to the finance, diplomatic and Royal elites of the age.

In 1801 Breguet patented the tourbillon, in 1810 he conceived the worlds very first wristwatch, made for Caroline Murat, Queen of Naples. Breguet was appointed to the Board of longitude and as chronometer-maker to the navy.  He also received the Legion of honour from Louis XVIII.

The following lots are a testament to Breguet, watchmaker to the Kings, Queens and important members of society. He was acknowledged as a benefactor of horology and supreme master of his art.
