This handsome figure study has not been connected to a surviving painting, though the sensitive handling of the red chalk medium and the distinctive hatching in the drapery and areas of the figure's hair, suggest that an attribution to the Sienese artist Ventura Salimbeni is sustainable.
Laid down to an old mount which has subsequently been hinged to a modern mount. The sheet has fractionally discoloured with evidence of surface dirt throughout and some slight abrasions to the upper right corner. The red chalk medium remains relatively fresh throughout.
