Description

FLOWN ON APOLLO 12 AND SIGNED BY COMMAND MODULE PILOT RICHARD GORDON.

The Apollo 12 mission launched on November 14th, 1969 with Mission Commander Pete Conrad, Lunar Module Pilot Alan Bean, and Command Module Pilot Richard Gordon on board. The rocket was struck by lightning twice, just 36 1/2 and 52 seconds after lift-off; while most of the CSM instrumentation and all three fuel cells in the Service module where knocked offline, and the attitude indicator was knocked out, the vehicle miraculously continued to fly correctly as the Saturn V instrument unit was not affected.
