notated in mauve ink on up to three four-stave systems per page, signed on the first page ("Ernst Krenek / Op. 47") and at the end of the score, with an autograph dedicatory inscription and title ("Paul Bekker gewidmet, zum 11. September 1926 / Vier kleine a-capella-Chöre nach Texten von Goethe") and autograph titles for each movement ("1. Kläffer...2. Aus den 'Inschriften' (Rhein und Main)...3. Guter Rat...4. Aus den 'Zahmen Xenien'), dated at the end of each movement, a few deletions, and some corrections in pencil to the third chorus 

11 pages, folio (34 x 27cm), 12-stave machine-ruled paper ("Beethoven Papier Nr.31."), original watercolour drawing on laid paper wrappers by Grete Klueber, illustrating the rider and his Spitz dog of the first chorus, Grasse and Evian-les Bains, 18-31 July 1926, light browning, a few tiny tears to outer margin of first two leaves

together with: an autograph letter [to Paul Bekker] by Krenek, 1 page, 8vo, on a correspondence card, also signed by Berta Hermann, Kassel, 11 September 1926; and a copy of the first edition of the Four Choruses op. 47, signed and inscribed by Krenek ("Mit herzlichen Glückwünschen zum 1. Mai 1927 / Ernst Krenek")

Description

A highly attractive manuscript from the 1920s dedicated by Krenek to the influential German music critic Paul Bekker (1882-1937). The delightful choruses, with texts by Goethe, were composed during a trip to France at the request of the Stuttgart Madrigal Choir.
