A RARE CARVED COCONUT BOX
QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
of cylindrical form, the fine and intricately carved coconut surface joined in narrow horizontal strips to form the vessel, carved in low relief with detailed sinuous chilong writhing amidst flowering lotus against a ground of small stylized waves, all resting on a similarly carved splayed foot, the recessed base with a 'cracked ice' pattern
