Description

An intriguing watercolor which combines Pennsylvania German Scherenschnitte and hollow cut silhouette portraits mounted over black silk. Esther Schwartz suggested that the marine picture at the bottom of the watercolor depicts Castle Garden, New York, and that the four silhouettes were done by the Peale family.
