A Reduced-Size Order of the Golden Fleece for Dress Wear
A ‘Collar’ and Badge in gold and enamels, early 19th Century, the Collar represented as a vertical chain of six doubled links divided by doubled enamelled flint elements and with fastener, the double-sided Fleece badge suspended from uniface enamelled flame and fire-steel suspension pendent from the chain, unsigned, of high quality workmanship, height 110mm, width at flames 25mm, moderate overall wear, in good very fine condition; together with a double-sided gold and enamel fire-steel suspension for a smaller miniature Golden Fleece, width 12mm, extremely fine; all housed in a contemporary velvet-lined red morocco and gilt fitted case with old riband and spaces for additional miniature pieces which are now lacking.

Provenance

Probably also Louis-Antoine de Bourbon, Duc d’Angoulême and Comte de Marnes (1775-1844), the eldest son of the future Charles X, who was invested as a Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece in 1814.  See also preceding lot.
