Description

In this watercolour Rowlandson looks towards King’s College Chapel which, consecrated in 1515, is among the finest examples of late Perpendicular Gothic architecture in the England. Visible on the left is the Fellows Building, which was completed in 1724 to the designs of James Gibbs (1682-1754). In the quadrangle, students and dons crowd around a harpist, while a pair of elegant ladies and a group of dusty workmen look on.
