Description

Mithradates had declared war on the Romans in 88 B.C. whereupon he quickly conquered Galatia, Phrygia and Asia.  Soon, however, the Roman armies under Sulla and Pompey were to defeat him over and over again; Mithradates' troops revolted and, having vainly tried to poison himself, Mithradates commanded a Gallic mercenary to run him through.
