Description

First edition of Tolkowsky's D.Sc. thesis, awarded in 1920, on diamond cutting, providing the mathematical formulae and specifications for the ideal round diamond cut which are still in use today. Tolkowsky (1889-1991) came from a Belgian family of diamond cutters. Later in 1919, he rewrote his thesis as Diamond Design (Sinkankas 6663) for general publication.

Tolkowsky's thesis is very rare: apart from the original still housed at the University of London, we have not been able to trace another copy.
