The canvas has not been lined and is slightly undulated in the upper left corner. There is a small spot of raised flaking with associated paint loss to the extreme upper part of the right framing edge, which could benefit from consolidation, and a superficial scratch in the man's trousers (as visible in the catalogue illustration). With the exception of a couple of very small spots of restoration in the upper left quadrant of the composition, visible under UV light, the work is in good original condition and ready to hang.
Presented in a modern narrow gilt frame.
The colours are stronger and more luminous than in the catalogue illustration.
