each black lacquered panel mounted with cloisonné enameled copper cut-outs portraying birds and plants in asymmetrical arrangements reminiscent of classical bird and flower paintings, framed between wood plaques carved with shou characters, bats, dragons and foliate scrolls, the reverse painted with a fantasy riverscape in shades of gold lacquer (6)

Description

A set of four hanging panels depicting flowers executed in a similar technique, is illustrated in Chinese Cloisonné, The Clague Collection, Phoenix Art Museum, 1980, pl. 79.  A pair of hanging panels also executed with this technique depicting cranes and peaches, was sold in our London rooms, 16th May 2007, lot 102., and a very similar six-panel screen was sold in Christie's Paris, 7th December 2007, lot 304.
