the deep rounded sides rising from a recessed base to a flared rim, deftly carved in low relief around the exterior with the 'Eight Buddhist Emblems' (Bajixiang), the dharma wheel, endless knot, fish, beribboned vase, lotus, standard of victory, parasol and conchshell, all between alternating 'C'-scrolls at the rim and a band of key-fret above a rope fillet encircling the base, the softly polished stone of greyish-white tone, mottled with icy streaks and a few russet inclusions
