Description

This watercolor dates from Turner's 1793 sketching tour of Kent, when at the age of eighteen, he is known to have visited Dover, Canterbury, Rochester and Rye. Turner depicts a man admiring the monumental and picturesque Constable's Tower, while to his right, the port of Dover and the English Channel can be seen beyond.
