Sotheby’s Wine is delighted to conclude its spring season in New York with Finest & Rarest Wines Featuring the Château Mouton Rothschild Versailles Celebration Cases and The Pristine Cellar of Dr. Daniel Salzman.
The sale leads with compelling selections celebrating the legends of Burgundy and the Northern Rhône, with a focus on the ‘80s and ‘90s, from The Pristine Cellar of Dr. Daniel Salzman. The pantheon of estates on offer includes DRC, Rousseau, Roumier, Jayer, Chave, Clape, Verset, and a stunning retrospective offering of mythical Gentaz Côte-Rôtie, spanning 1985 - 1992. With almost no exceptions, the wines in Dr. Salzman’s cellar were purchased on release from the most reputable retail merchants and stored with utmost care.
The sale proceeds with the third and final offering from the unprecedented partnership between Château Mouton Rothschild and the Palace of Versailles, 25 limited-edition Versailles Celebration Cases each including five Château Mouton Rothschild vintages with labels by outstanding contemporary artists who have exhibited at the Palace of Versailles, namely Giuseppe Penone, Bernar Venet, Anish Kapoor, Jeff Koons, and Lee Ufan. These beautifully crafted collectors’ cases honour and celebrate the Palace of Versailles and Château Mouton Rothschild’s rich artistic and cultural history. The proceeds will be donated in full to help fund restoration projects at the Palace of Versailles, and successful bidders will receive an invitation for them and a guest to attend a private visit and tasting at Château Mouton Rothschild, as well as the Versailles Celebration Gala Dinner at the Palace of Versailles on 21 September 2019, during which historic ex-cellar 1945 vintage of Château Mouton Rothschild will be served.
Additional highlights from the sale include “Treasures from a Manhattan Collector,” “Top-Class 2000 Bordeaux in OWC,” and an attractive range of classic wines, for both cellaring and drinking, from some of the best cellars known to Sotheby’s.
