First edition; one of the first thirty sets of sheets that were bound in black buckram for presentation only. Hanneman states that these special advance copies were bound uncut, but that does not seem to have always been the case. The present copy is trimmed on all three edges, as was the copy in the John Goin Hemingway Collection. The Goin copy was described in the 1992 Joseph the Provider catalogue of that collection as "One of approx. 30 copies, especially bound in black buckram for presentation only. … Unlike the copies described by Hanneman, this copy has trimmed edges and may be unique."
