The Story of the Lost and Found Pissarro

25 MARCH 2021 | PARIS

Originally commissioned by Theo Van Gogh, Camille Pissarro’s La Récolte des pois was thought to be lost for three-quarters of a century. In this episode of Sotheby’s Stories, learn how the painting was rediscovered after being seized from collector George Bauer by the Nazi Regime in 1943. One of only a small number of paintings created by Pissarro in 1887, this rare and important work is a highlight of our upcoming sale Art Impressioniste et Moderne (25 March Paris).
