German artist Otto Dix fought in and survived some of the worst battles of the First World War. He was one of the only visual artists to reveal the trauma of war in their work, transforming his battlefield experiences into raw and powerful art. Sotheby’s upcoming sale Otto Dix: Haunted Visions (9 – 19 March) offers prints of these frontline depictions from ‘Der Krieg’ portfolio, as well as images of life on the streets of Germany as a returning civilian.
