The Asian Art sale on 15 June in Paris will include a great variety of works of art and paintings from various countries across Asia. This season’s opus is one of the strongest Sotheby’s auctions ever assembled in the field in Paris, encompassing masterpieces of Asian art, including Chinese jades from the collection of Colonel Tom Hall and an Imperial white jade seal for the Jiaqing Emperor (r. 1796-1820), from the Estate of Emile Guimet (1836-1918). The sale also features further great examples of imperial jade carving, amongst them a rare inscribed jade mountain representing the favorite tea house retreat of the Qianlong Emperor (r. 1736-1795); and a superlative selection of Buddhist art, highlighted by an extraordinary group of gilt-bronze sculptures from the celebrated monastery of Densatil in Tibet.
