In the early 1960s, American art went Pop, and at the center of this new movement was painter Roy Lichtenstein. 'The Ring (Engagement)' from 1962 is one of the most subtle and complex works from this period, epitomizing as it does Lichtenstein’s hot and cold approach -- hot in his choice of dramatic subject matter, cold in its graphic execution. This vibrant and dynamic painting is a star of Sotheby's Contemporary Art Evening Auction on 12 May 2015.
