Richter's "Highly Planned Kind of Spontaneity"

27 April 2022 | Hong Kong

Arguably the most famous living artist, Gerhard Richter is one of the most sought after contemporary artists in the world, refreshing the medium of painting through his pioneering mode of abstraction as exemplified in Abstraktes Bild 845-1.
Richter has described his method as that of randomness, chance, inspiration and destruction. Richter achieves a harmonious balance of accident and intention in these works, or what the artist called a “highly planned kind of spontaneity”.
