Picasso’s Wonderfully Chic Portrait of Françoise Gilot

New York | 12 May

‘Femme Assise en Costume Vert’ is a riveting portrait of Pablo Picasso’s partner and muse Françoise Gilot. In this episode of Expert Voices, Sotheby’s Chairman Helena Newman explains why the jewel-like emerald green colour is so evocative of Picasso’s perception of Gilot and how his Cubist, sculptural and graphic style reflects the culmination of their personal and artistic collaboration. Appearing at auction for the first time in nearly 35 years, the work is a highlight of our upcoming auction of Impressionist & Modern Art (12 May New York).
