Mark Godfrey on the Constant Evolution of Philip Guston

New York | 17 - 19 May

Nile, Remorse, and Studio Celebration display not only Philip Guston’s evolution as an artist, but the progression of art history itself. Art historian Mark Godfrey breaks down how although Guston transitioned from abstraction to an entirely different style of figurative image making, consistencies abound through all of the artist’s work. Nile will be offered in Sotheby's Modern Evening Auction on 17 May 2022 while Studio Celebration and Remorse will be offered in Sotheby's Contemporary Evening Auction on 19 May 2022.
